Edgar Wright revealed in an interview that his 2025 adaptation of The Running Man features a joke where Arnold Schwarzenegger is depicted as the President of the United States, with his face on the $100 bill. The director explained that the gag was inspired by Daniel Waters, writer of Demolition Man, which first floated the idea of President Schwarzenegger. Wright's alternate timeline allows non-native-born citizens to run for office, and the joke gained real-world resonance when Schwarzenegger became Governor of California in 2003. Schwarzenegger also praised the remake, calling it the only movie he wanted redone.
